37% of India’s Active COVID Cases in Kerala

The COVID-19 figures in Kerala could be the precursor of the third COVID wave in India, expected to arrive by next week. 

Out of 4.03 lakh active cases in the country at present, 1.5 lakh are from the state of Kerala, constituting over 37% of the total active cases, stated government sources. Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said that the rise in cases in Kerala can be seen as the onset of the third wave in the country. The Union Health Ministry also sent a six-member team, under the leadership of the Director of National Centre for Disease Control, S K Singh, to Kerala in order to assist with COVID-19 management.

Over the last 8 weeks, Kerala has witnessed a 13% increase in the daily cases, and recently, the state reported over 22,000 new daily cases. The number of deaths has also been rising in the state… (NDTV, July 29, 2021)
